The Top Five Secret Reasons I Love Social Media

Allison z HMA PR zdradza powody, dla których kocha media społecznościowe. Po pierwsze – może być tam niegrzeczą dziewczynką...
Being in public relations, a good portion of my day is spent researching, planning for and writing about social media. Not since the news release has there been such a game-changing tool introduced into our marketing communications toolboxes.
But, all work and no plan makes Alison a dull girl.
So below are the top five secret reasons I love social media. I dare you all to add some of yours in the comments, too!
5. I actually DO care what you ate for lunch! And I’ll click on your photo of it!
I am one of the pickiest eaters in the world.
With the magic of social media, I am able to secretly obsess over the fact that my social media friends can actually eat mushrooms, pickles olives, onions, cucumbers, and mustard and not make this face (see right) in their mobile upload.
4. I love babies!
While I am in no rush to have a child of any kind – and I have yet to even babysit an actual, living child OR change a diaper in my life – darn it if I don’t love seeing the 702 kids from my graduating class at Horizon High School being parents. Sometimes I even find myself talking to the baby pictures I see on Facebook, “Do you know what your mommy did in high school?”
Oh, the blackmail I will have over my fellow Horizon alum when their kids are old enough to talk and read!
3. I love feeling included.
I hate shopping. Given this hate, the idea of leaving my couch on Black Friday almost gave me a panic attack.
But, I also hate not feeling like part of the group. Thankfully, with the help of Twitter and the #AZBF (Arizona Black Friday) hashtag, I was able to follow the misadventures of insane Wal-Mart shoppers, Best Buy tech geeks willing to wait in line for six hours for a $20 discount on an XBox, and even some lovesick friends trying to buy their girlfriends real, adult jewelry for the first time ever without even getting out of my pajamas.
2. D List Celebrities Rule
Ever find yourself scrolling past tweets about social media studies and links to breaking news on the economy to see what the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Kardashians are up to? Yeah, me too.
1. I like being bad, sometimes.
My mom is a high school English teacher. My sister is a gifted specialist. My dad wrote a book. I live and die by AP Style.
As you can probably tell, spelling and grammar count in the Bailin household.
But, from time to time, it’s kind of fun to be a “grammar bad girl” by using “thru” rather than “through” and “UR” rather than “you’re.” And what my mom doesn’t see, won’t hurt her!
Okay, now fess up – what are some of your guilty social media pleasures???
