Multi Communications for the Polish Nurses Association

1.02.2012

Multi Communications has engaged into cooperation with the Polish Nurses Association. With the support of medical technology companies, the Agency will organize the Polish National Congress on Occupational Exposure.

The Polish National Congress on Occupational Exposure will be a prestigious event destined for health care and medical industry representatives. The aim of the congress is to highlight the problem of occupational exposure and accelerate the implementation of the UE Directive on post-exposure procedures.

Occupational exposure can be defined as a situation, where a member of medical personnel comes into undesirable physical contact with a hazardous substance (e.g. blood) while performing their professional duties (e.g. accidental spattering with patient’s blood while putting him/her on a drip, stabbing oneself with a used syringe). All medical procedures that require ‘sharp’ equipment (needles, lancets, glass elements etc.), as well as procedures where medical staff have direct contact with blood (blood collection, blood vessel cannulation, injections), potentially constitute a source of occupational exposure. Those who face the biggest risk are nurses, doctors (especially operating doctors), laboratory workers and paramedical staff.

“The current legislation in Poland does not provide for any uniform post-exposure procedures,” says Dorota Kilańska, President of the Polish Nurses Association. “The Congress, during which we will come up with a unified official stance, will be the first major step towards solving this appalling problem.”

“The task entrusted to us by the Polish Nurses Association is a major distinction,” says Dorota Bieniek-Kaska, PR Department Director at Multi Communications. “We hope that by drawing the public attention to this issue we will bring a significant improvement in the occupational safety of people whose everyday job consists in taking care of our own health and safety.”

The Polish National Congress on Occupational Exposure will be held this year on April 19.
